Please mention your macOS version and Hourbloom’s version (Settings → About). A screenshot often helps.

Calls and notes

How does Hourbloom notice a call?

macOS keeps a list of the apps that are using the microphone. Hourbloom looks at that list every few seconds — it never opens the microphone itself and hears nothing.

  • Call apps — Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Discord and Webex: holding the microphone means a call.
  • Messengers — Slack and WhatsApp: the microphone and sound from the other side, so a voice message doesn’t count.
  • Browsers — Google Meet, Teams, Zoom and Jitsi, recognized by the tab’s title. This needs the Screen Recording permission.

When a call goes on for more than a minute, the timer moves to a task named after the call or its app, and the notes go under it. After the call, the timer goes back to your previous task. Both are switches in Settings → Notes.

Why does Hourbloom ask for Screen Recording?

macOS only lets apps with this permission read other windows’ titles. Hourbloom needs titles to tell a Google Meet tab from, say, a voice message in the same browser, and it uses the permission for the screenshot button in notes.

It doesn’t record or send your screen. The permission is optional: without it, calls in Zoom, Teams and other apps are still noticed.

A call wasn’t noticed or the notes window didn’t open
  1. Check Settings → Notes: Open notes on calls and, for browser calls, Calls in a browser are on.
  2. For a browser call, turn on Hourbloom in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, then quit and reopen Hourbloom. After an update, macOS sometimes needs the switch turned off and on again.
  3. A call is noticed a few seconds after the microphone is taken, and not if it was already going when Hourbloom started.

Still nothing? Write to us with the app you called from.

How do I open notes without a call?

Press ⌥⌘N in any app, or open notes from the panel or the main window. Notes go to the running task; type # to pick another task.

Google Sheets

How do I connect a client’s Google Sheet?
  1. Settings → Connections → Google Sheets → Connect. Sign in on Google’s page in your browser and allow access.
  2. In the main window, open Projects, choose the project and, under Client’s sheet, choose Create Sheet (from Hourbloom’s template) or Connect Existing and pick the sheet in Google’s window.
  3. To write hours, press Sheet at the top of the panel or Sync with Sheet in Projects. Check the days and press Write to Sheet.

If a day in the sheet was typed in by hand and differs from the app, Hourbloom asks which one is right before changing it.

What can Hourbloom see in my Google Drive?

Only the spreadsheets it created or that you picked in Google’s file picker (the drive.file access). Not the rest of your Drive. Everything goes directly between your Mac and Google.

Where does the name in a sheet’s title come from?

Hourbloom names a new sheet “Name × Client — Time Tracker”. The name comes from Settings → General → Your name: at first it is taken from your Mac’s user account, and you can change or clear it there. The title itself can also be edited before the sheet is created.

How do I disconnect Google?

Settings → Connections → Disconnect. To disconnect one project’s sheet only, open the project in Projects and choose Disconnect Sheet…. You can also remove access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Your data

Where does Hourbloom keep my data?

In a folder on your Mac: Settings → Data → Show in Finder opens it. In the App Store version it’s ~/Library/Containers/app.hourbloom/Data/Library/Application Support/Hourbloom.

Your data is in data.json, the notes’ screenshots in Notes, and the daily copies in Backups — one per day, the last 30 kept.

What leaves your Mac and what doesn’t: the privacy policy.

How do I restore a backup?
  1. Quit Hourbloom.
  2. Open the data folder (Settings → Data → Show in Finder) and rename data.json to data-before-restore.json.
  3. From Backups, copy the file of the day you want, for example data-2026-10-05.json, next to it and rename the copy to data.json.
  4. Open Hourbloom.
How do I import from Klokki, Toggl, Clockify or Harvest?
  1. Export your time entries to CSV in the other app (usually from its detailed report).
  2. In Hourbloom, Settings → Data → Entries from other apps → Import… and choose the file.
  3. Hourbloom shows the days and what it already has before adding anything. A copy of your data is saved first, and Undo Import puts everything back.
How do I export my entries?

Settings → Data → All entries → Export… saves a CSV for Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.

Moving to a new Mac

Migration Assistant moves Hourbloom’s data with your other apps. Or export a CSV on the old Mac and import it on the new one. Pro comes back with Restore Purchases.

Pro and purchases

How do I restore Pro on another Mac?

Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple Account, open Hourbloom’s Pro screen and choose Restore Purchases.

How do I cancel Pro?
  1. Open the App Store and click your name at the bottom of the sidebar.
  2. Account Settings → Subscriptions → Manage, next to Hourbloom.
  3. Choose Cancel Subscription.

Or System Settings → your name → Media & Purchases → Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends; Pro stays on until then. Your data isn’t deleted. Trial, renewal and refunds in detail: the Terms of Use.

Can I get a refund?

Payments go through Apple, so refunds do too: ask at reportaproblem.apple.com.

What happens to my data if Pro ends?

Nothing is deleted. Free features keep working; Pro features lock until you subscribe again.
